It has definitely been a long time since I've blogged but I have been extremely busy with...well...just life in general. Things have just been happening and passing me by but this definitely has snagged my attention... Okay, so, a little background information, I'm sure EVERYONE has heard that a couple days ago superstar couple Chris Brown and Rihanna were incolved in some sort of domestic dispute. The details are kinda vague but he turned himself into jail and she had a few bruises or something. First of all, I'm having a really hard time even believung this....He seems like such a nice guy! But I guess looks can be misleading, especially in this case. I'm very saddened and disappointed by this whole shenanigan.
I know ur thinking, "Okay Jen whats's the point?" The point is this: Doesn't this happen every single day? To millions of different women? With more than just a couple cuts and bruises? I mean don't women die from domestic abuse? There has been radio shows, MTV documentaries, newspaper articles, magazine articles and everything else geared towards Chris Brown and Rihanna, speculating about what happened and making him seem like a monster. Of course I don't condone domestic violence and I think that he needs to seek some help and gain some self control; but at the same I believe that him being a successful celebrity as well as Rihanna has greatly influenced the media's approach on covering their story. Every couple has their issues and I am sure that Chris brown is not the only 19 year old young man that lost control during a heated argument. I think that the media should BACK OFF and let them deal with their own problems.
U should see the message boards! People are saying that they should break up and "Rihanna should do this and that." I think it's kinda sad that our society has gotten to the point where they believe that it's any of their business! Everyone wants to be a psychologist when the people involved in the relationship is not them. If the shoe was on the other foot the first thhing they would say was, "I don't want people on business!" Well I think Chris and Ri Ri may feel the same way.
I know it's relatively impossible not to hold them to a different standard because of their celebrity status but we have to remember that at the end of the day they are regular people too. They put their pants on one leg at a time, just like we do. [Given they may be $2000 pants but, that's not the point!]
I guess I can say that I liked the way MTV's special "Chris Brown and Rihanna: Love in Trouble" put a spin on it and actually used the situation to promote awareness about domestic violence. Not just pointing the finger and expressing their personal opinion. Good Job MTV.
I said all this to say that, unfortunate stuff happens to people, whether they are famous or not. They are going to deal with their issues in the way that best suits them. Which is exactly what I hope that Rihanna and Chris decides to do. It is not up to us to decide what is best for them.
